I’m afraid Instagram posts have taken over from my blogging. Laziness, perhaps and certainly the need to be quick and instant, and because life doesn’t change much from year to year, maybe it doesn’t need to be chronicled in such a miniscule way. That said, it is those tiny changes that I love. They buck up the spirits and keep me going.
Regular readers will have noticed that there are no columns in the Telegraph: new editor - but I’ve been writing and styling for interior magazines, and an arthritic knee (op soon, I hope) has made life in the garden painful. Nonetheless we struggle on.
We’re still opening this year for the National Gardens Scheme on Sunday May 14th, 10 Joy Lane Gardens, two of them new. There will be huge Plant Sale and tickets sold at number 19*; a Vintage Garden Artifacts Sale in Canterbury Road; and a children’s Treasure Hunt and Tea Tent at 66 Joy Lane. Hopefully a sunny day and fun for all.
Last year we had 900 visitors and raised a massive £5000. Our counterparts in town – the Townies did brilliantly and open this year on June 11th. This may be the last year to see my garden in its present layout, because I have plans, says she cryptically. But it’s all secret for now. My two bantams and I look forward to welcoming you.
*Tickets available online from ngs.org.uk or on the day at 19 Joy Lane CT5 4LT Cash or Card.
